Liverpool players earned easier wins after Sheffield United test, says Klopp

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says his players have earned some easier victories after a hard-fought 2-1 Premier League win over Sheffield United on Saturday.

After two top-flight games without tasting success, the champions returned to winning ways after Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota overturned Sander Berge s early penalty for Chris Wilder s side, who remain winless so far this season.

The result extended the Reds unbeaten run at Anfield in the Premier League to 62 games and Klopp who disputed the decision to award the Blades a spot-kick for Fabinho s challenge on Oliver McBurnie  praised the relentless nature of his side.

You always have to work hard against Sheffield United. It s hard to take for Chris Wilder, he told BBC Sport.

Ronaldo and Mbappe have points to prove – Champions League in Opta numbers

There is still lots to play for on matchday six as the Champions League group stage draws to its conclusion.

Barcelona and Juventus are already through but Tuesday should see Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo face off once again, the latter looking to end a dry spell in front of goal against the Catalans.

Kylian Mbappe is another star enduring a comparatively rotten run when it comes to goalscoring, but Istanbul Basaksehir could represent ideal opponents for the Paris Saint-Germain forward.

Elsewhere in a finely poised Group H, RB Leipzig host Manchester United in a critical game for both – and one where Marcus Rashford could earn a slice of history.

Real Madrid 2-1 Bayern Munich (4-3 agg): Joselu late show seals Champions League final spot

Joselu scored twice late on as Real Madrid came from behind to beat Bayern Munich 2-1 and progress to the Champions League final.

Having drawn the first leg 2-2 in Munich, Bayern looked set to go through and tee up an all-German final at Wembley when Alphonso Davies sent a rocket into the top-right corner of Andriy Lunin s goal in the 68th minute of Wednesday s clash at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Yet 14-time European champions Madrid came back from the brink thanks to substitute Joselu, whose double sealed a 4-3 aggregate win.

The former Stoke City striker capitalised on a calamitous mistake from Manuel Neuer in the 88th minute before he shinned a second into the Bayern goal from Antonio Rudiger s cross.

That second goal was initially disallowed for offside, …

Man Utd secure top-four Premier League finish after Everton beat West Ham

Manchester United are guaranteed to finish in the top four of the Premier League thanks to Everton s 1-0 win at West Ham on Sunday.

The Red Devils won 3-1 at Aston Villa earlier in the day, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani securing all three points after Bertrand Traore s opener.

It was the 10th time this season United have recovered from conceding first to win, which marks a record in the Premier League.

Former United manager David Moyes then saw his West Ham side lose at home to his old club Everton courtesy of Dominic Calvert-Lewin s first-half strike.

That result means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer s side are now certain to finish in the top four in the table – and return to next season s Champions League – regardless of their results…

Roma 1-1 Juventus: What Were The Main Talking Points As The Italian Icons Play Out A Stalemate In Rome?

With all eyes from across Italy falling on the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night, Roma and Juventus played out a 1-1 stalemate.

Rightfully billed as a season-defining affair for both of the Italian giants, the Wolves got off to a flying start here as Belgium international Romelu Lukaku tapped home from close range and recorded a 12th Serie A strike of the season.

However, although Daniele De Rossi’s men might have been sat in pole position to take a giant step towards a Champions League ticket, they were quickly pegged back just 16 minutes later as Gleison Bremer glanced his header home just after the half-hour mark.

With five of the other top eight sides in Serie A dropping points ahead of kick-off in Rome, both sides were desperate to make a heavyweight state…

Nagelsmann admits Bayern ´deserved to lose´ against Villarreal

Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann admits his side deserved to lose their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Villarreal on Wednesday.

Arnaut Danjuma scored the only goal of the game in the eighth minute, and only wasteful finishing prevented the hosts from taking a greater lead to Germany for next week s second leg.

The result marked the first time Bayern have failed to score in a Champions League game since February 2019 (0-0 v Liverpool), ending a run of 30 consecutive games in which they had scored at least once.

While Nagelsmann accepted Villarreal were deserving winners, he still believes his side have what it takes to turn it around in the reverse fixture.

We deserved to lose. We weren t good today. In the first half, we lacked p…

Real Madrid turned down €100m Premier League bid for Bale – Calderon

Real Madrid turned down a €100million bid from a Premier League club for Gareth Bale last year, according to the Spanish side s former president Ramon Calderon.

Bale hit out at Madrid in an explosive interview on Wednesday, accusing the LaLiga giants of making things very difficult for him to move away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Wales international was on the brink of joining Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning in July 2019, only for Madrid to pull the plug on a deal at the 11th hour.

And Calderon Madrid president between 2006 and 2009 has claimed an unnamed English club also stepped forward with a big offer for Bale 12 months ago.

I know in the last day of the transfer window last year there was an offer from the Premier League, he told ta…
