Euro 2012 Group A preview: Poland v Greece

Captain Jakub Blaszczykowski believes Poland can cause some havoc at Euro 2012 but knows the Greece opener is crucial.

The European Championships co-host head into Friday s opening match against Greece as the lowest-ranked team in the tournament but Blaszczykowski is confident Poland can have some success at Euro 2012.

I believe that with a lot of luck, we can cause some havoc during the tournament, Blaszczykowski said.

It all depends on how we play in the group stage.

Success at that stage will give us a lot of self-belief and it will enable us to go further.

Poland are in Group A with Greece, Czech Republic and Russia.

It is widely regarded as the easiest group at the continental championships, which has put added pressure on the …

Dutch are not right on time for arrival at Euro 2008

The Dutch squad arrived for Euro 2008 in Geneva on Tuesday albeit rather later than planned after heavy traffic round Amsterdam delayed their departure.

Five of the 23 man squad part of an overall delegation of 46 were held up and forced the team to delay their plane.

The Dutch will feel more than a little at home once they arrive at their base of Lausanne, as they often have training camps there and were based there before the 2006 World Cup finals.

The Dutch who are bidding to add to the 1988 European crown when the team included their present coach Marco van Basten will undergo a training session on Wednesday morning followed by a short press conference.

The Dutch are in the Group of Death Group C and open their campaign against world champions It…

Ballon d´Or 2018: The story of Luka Modric´s magnificent career

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo made the Ballon d Or their own personal property over the past decade.

In the end, the wait for the next superstar to tear it from their grasp proved misguided.

Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric is a performer of quiet brilliance, his story one of persistence.

It is tale that has taken him painstakingly to the summit of global football.

Three in a row – the first time

Modric honed his skills as a youngster in Zadar, initially against the backdrop of a war-torn Croatia, and his slight frame meant sceptics had to be overcome. A trial with Hajduk Split was unsuccessful due to concerns over his size, but the loss of Modric s boyh…

Spanish PM sets sights on World Cup after Euro 2008 win

Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero is dreaming of glory for Spain at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa after his side beat Germany 1-0 to win Euro 2008, its first major title in over 40 years.

They deserved to win and this is only the beginning. The best is yet to come. We have to go for the World Cup now, he told private Spanish television Cuatro from Vienna, Austria after congratulating the squad.

I am happy, really happy. Its a privilege because I believe I am the first premier of the democratic era who has presided over a title win. My generation had the right to enjoy seeing its national team win a championship like this, he added.

Spain last lifted the European Cup in 1964, when right-wing General Francisco Franco ruled the country with an iro…

Modric urges Croatia focus on Qatar despite ´unforgettable´ 2018 World Cup

Croatia s World Cup exploits at Russia 2018 remain unforgettable for Luka Modric but the veteran midfielder wants to put those memories aside in Qatar.

Modric claimed the Ballon d Or in 2018 after guiding Croatia to the final of FIFA s top tournament, which ended in defeat to France, while winning a third consecutive Champions League with Real Madrid.

The 37-year-old and coach Zlatko Dalic are two familiar faces from the Russian run in an otherwise much-changed squad.

Modric was named Golden Ball winner at the last World Cup, given to the tournament s best player, but wants to put previous success behind him ahead of Wednesday s Group F opener against Morocco.

Definitely, what we ve been through in 2018 in Russia is unforgettable and indelible in my mind…

2022 NFL Mock Draft Version 1: Jags Give Lawrence Protection at the Top

The Super Bowl is in the books and that means it’s NFL Draft season. Besides the Bengals picking an offensive lineman in the first round, there’s a lot up in the air heading into this year’s draft.

For starters, there is no clear-cut No. 1 pick and while there are some high-ceiling quarterbacks like Malik Willis and Matt Corral, there is no Andrew Luck or Joe Burrow to be found in this class.

With limited NFL Draft betting options at this point, version 1.0 of my 2022 NFL Mock Draft will be pretty vanilla. But don’t worry, bets are on the way with NFL Draft odds already on the board.
